Our Journey: Where Heritage Meets Modern Luxury

Every great building has a story to tell, and ours is still being written.

At 4 Baxtergate, a place that once safeguarded the fortunes of Whitby, a new chapter is unfolding. Soon, The Treasury will become a sanctuary of sophisticated dining, exceptional drinks, and warm hospitality, a space where Whitby’s heritage meets modern luxury.

Right now, we’re hard at work behind the scenes, bringing this vision to life.

Honouring the Past

Built in 1891, this Grade II listed building has stood at the heart of Whitby life for over a century. From its grand façade to its historic banking hall, every stone and carving tells a story of the town’s enduring spirit.

Our name, The Treasury, pays tribute to that legacy, but with a new meaning. We’re no longer safeguarding wealth; we’re treasuring experience, craftsmanship, and connection.

Crafting the Future

Inside, a meticulous restoration is underway.

Specialist craftsmen, designers, and conservation experts are carefully preserving the building’s architectural beauty while introducing a new layer of comfort and sophistication. Our team includes local architect Neil Duffield and works are being completed by Ryan Sleighthome, Luke Clarkson, Matthew Hodgson, and Andrew Chilton.

Original features are being lovingly restored, from the original intricate banking desk, to the striking windows, whilst new design elements are welcomed into the mix and are beginning to take shape, blending timeless character with contemporary elegance.

A Landmark in the Making

The transformation of The Treasury Whitby is more than a renovation, it’s a rebirth.

When we open our doors in late 2025, we’ll welcome you into a space that reflects the best of Whitby: authentic, beautiful, and built to be shared.

Until then, we invite you to follow our journey as we restore this historic landmark, reveal our interiors, and share behind-the-scenes moments along the way.

The Treasury Whitby – coming soon.
